Case Summaries

The list below includes the names of all Iowa cold case victims of which we are aware, with links to individual case summary pages already written or in progress. The list is ongoing and not yet inclusive of all Iowa cold cases, though we continue to add names as we are notified of other open cases.

Many hours, and sometimes days or weeks, often go into fully researching and then writing these summaries. Our research and sources range from local law enforcement agencies to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation as well as newspaper and other archives and interviews with victims’ family members and friends.

If you know of a case not listed here or have information you’d like included with an existing page, please contact us with details and, if at all possible, scanned photos.

Permission to reprint a case summary — for online purposes or in print — may be obtained by writing us and including in your letter the victim’s name, how the article will be used, and the publication name/website address where you plan to use it.

Cases are alphabetized by the victim’s first name.

Why isnt Alex Micheal Bullerman’s case not on here ? Did they not even investigated more ?

    • Carol Kean says:

Hailey, this is Carol Kean, filling in for Jody, who’s battling breast cancer. i’ll find out why the case isn’t posted here. “Gang related,” police say, but still no arrests or convictions. https://www.kcrg.com/content/news/2-people-injured-after-shooting-near-UNI–456810433.html

      • Carol Kean says:

“Police say Alex Michael Bullerman died after a shooting in the 2300 block of Olive St. He is 18 and from Waterloo. Police found him in the backyard. One hour later they found Dylan Gehrke. He has been treated and released for a gunshot wound.” Apparently, Gehrke hasn’t been able to ID the shooters?

Wow, I used to live in that gray house showed in the video and pics referenced in the linked article when I was a student at UNI. That is literally one block from the NE corner and “The Hill” where the bars, etc. starts.

It’s very unfortunate. I certainly don’t recall any gang activity at the UNI campus – and I spent a lot of time on “The Hill’ back in the day.

Edit: “That is literally one block from the NE corner of the UNI campus and “The Hill” where the bars, etc. starts.
