Case # 1992-26312
June 19, 1992

Dennis “Patrick” Moore, a US Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam, survived a war only to return stateside and be shot while sleeping in his car.

Moore, 46, was living in Des Moines and, like many other veterans, faced challenges that led to homelessness.

In the early morning hours on Friday, June 29, 1992, as Moore lay sleeping in his car behind a house on the city’s north side, someone shot him in the chest.

Police believed the shooting was a robbery attempt.

Police said Moore lived in Des Moines but had no permanent address.

Dennis Moore was born March 30, 1946, but other than his service with the US Marine Corps in Vietnam, very little is known about his life.
