On Sunday, July 22, 1984, relatives found 58-year-old Arnold Sansgaard’s nude body dead on the living room floor of the rural Story City, Iowa home he shared with his mother, Della, in northeast Boone County. An autopsy showed he died from two shallow stab wounds to the right side of his chest, probably about July 15 or 16.

On May 7, 1986, an unidentified female’s body was found floating in a water filled pit off Highway 33, approximately three-fourths of a mile north of Combee Road in Lakeland, Florida. An investigation revealed the victim had suffered multiple blows to the head and body and then been put into the water and left to drown. The death was ruled a homicide. Nineteen years later, the “Jane Doe” was found to be Ronette Peterson of Madrid, Iowa.

On August 8, 2007, at approximately 8:53 p.m., 53-year-old Mark Snopek of rural Boone was riding his bicycle on County Road R18 (also known as L Avenue) traveling northbound when he was struck from behind by a dark colored vehicle. From there, the vehicle fled the scene and continued northbound.
