On February 18, 1975, Trooper Charles Black impounded a green 1966 Ford van bearing a 1973 Washington license plate L84590 that had been found on Interstate 80 at the eastbound “on” ramp at Altoona. On April 7, 1975, upon being contacted by Gregory Dickey’s father, who stated that the van belonged to his son, the vehicle was broken into to look for clues as to where Gregory might have been headed. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the body of Gregory Dickey was found in the van’s back seat under a blanket.

Annamarie Rittman, a 46-year-old employee at the Lowe’s Store in Altoona, Iowa, was struck down by a pickup that swerved into her on December 27, 2005. The mother of three was walking through the store’s parking lot just before 5:30 a.m. when video cameras captured on tape a red four-door Ford pickup truck running her down and hitting her from behind. Justin Pollard, a U.S. Army reservist, was charged and acquitted in her murder.
