5/27/2016 – Homicide at 40th and Crocker
On 26 May 2016, at approximately 10:57 pm, the Des Moines Police Department Communications Center began receiving phone calls reporting gunfire heard in the area of 40th Place and Crocker Street. At least one of those calls also reported that a person had been shot and was believed to be deceased.
Upon their arrival at the scene, Des Moines Police Department police officers did find a deceased adult male in the roadway at the 4000 block of Crocker Street. This death is being investigated as a homicide. The victim in this homicide has been identified as 44 year old Des Moines resident Scott Allan Perez, Sr (DOB 07-15-71).

The victim in Des Moines’ latest homicide was the father to a young woman killed when her boyfriend, an ex-gang member, crashed his car last November.
Scott Allan Perez Sr., 44, was found lying in the intersection of Crocker Street and 40th Place after police responded to multiple gunshots in the area at 10:57 p.m. Sgt. Paul Parizek, a spokesman for the department, said he’s the father of Scalicity Angel Boyd, 22, girlfriend of Troy Mure Jr., who was convicted of vehicular homicide after crashing into a pole during a chase.
The Perez family is grieving their second loss in less than a year.
“He’s somebody who would never hurt a fly and the fact that it came down to something like this, it just fills everybody’s hearts with anger,” said Scott’s brother, Cory Perez.
“We have no idea who did it,” said John Perez, Scott’s cousin. “But the people are still out there in our community. They could kill somebody else. That’s the hardest part. It’s not right.”
Crime scene tape hung from a garbage can Friday morning outside 901 40th Place, where what looked like a fresh bullet hole was lodged in the center of the home’s red front door.
The shooter has not been identified but neighbors reported seeing a light-colored car at the scene. Police and dispatchers were looking for a man in a white-hooded sweatshirt that got into a silver Chevrolet Lumina, according to audio from police scanners.
Parizek said he couldn’t confirm anything the suspect on Friday.
But Catherine Veal, who lives three houses from the crime scene said she saw a light-colored car acting strangely just before police arrived.
Veal watched from her porch as a four-door car was driving slowly with its lights off southbound on 40th Place. It stopped diagonally facing Crocker Street at the stop sign.
She was jolted from sleep by the sound of a “firecracker.” Veal has lived in the southern part of the Drake neighborhood since 1999.
“As soon as I made the connection that it was a gunshot, I heard four more,” Veal said. “I can’t believe it. Right here … near Roosevelt.”
Trent Schwab, 18, was hanging out with some friends near the Grand Avenue McDonald’s when his mother called to warn him of a shooting next door to their home on 40th Place. Schwab made his way to the crime scene.
“He was laying parallel with the road, head back, just laying down looking straight up,” Schwab said of Perez.
Schwab said he’d seen Perez before, hanging around with his neighbors, but he didn’t know his name.
Parizek said Perez lived south of the crime scene on Center Street.
Schwab said he has seen homicides victims before, but never in Des Moines.
“My family and I moved from south Memphis to get away from this,” Schwab said. “We play rugby and skateboard on that part of the street. Now, to know a life has been lost. … It’s kind of an empty feeling.”

Scott Allan Perez, Sr., 44, passed away tragically on May 26, 2016 in Des Moines. He was born July 15, 1971 in Des Moines to Marsha (Herring) and Joseph, Perez, Sr.
Scottie spent his entire life in Des Moines. As a teen, he played football at Roosevelt, soccer, basketball and baseball.
“Peace, Love and Energy” was his favorite saying and how he lived his life. He would often give love taps on his friend’s shoulders as he knew no strangers and was loved by all. He was the kind of person who would invite people over for a warm meal, roof over their head and once provided shoes to a homeless person to avoid the cold winter.
Scottie loved music and could be heard singing while his brother, Pepe, played the harmonica. He would end every song with “uhhh energy” or “hun, hun feel it” to share the passion for his words. Scottie and Pepe were often together, even in his last moments, so much so that Scottie referred to Pepe as his “Irish Twin.”
Scottie loved his kids and grandchildren. It was not uncommon for Scottie to wake up his grandchildren with candy after they stayed the night. Scottie would often ask for a ride to Greenwood Park, where he enjoyed basking in nature and then walk back home. Scottie would always find a way to stay in contact with family and would often be found in the back yard meditating. He will be remembered in our hearts as most commonly wearing a sports jersey, jeans and backwards cap.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Marsha Perez; children, Scott Perez, Jr. (Lisa), Scotniesha Perez, Danielle, Justin, Emanuel and Marshal Perez; grandchildren, Keith Clayborne IV, Aniyah Perez, Zarii Perez, Antonio Perez, Aaliyah Perez and Zaynirah Perez; siblings, Micheal Alcantar, Joseph Perez, Jr., Patrick Perez (Shannon) and Cory (Sierra) Perez; mother of his 3 children, Shalisha Barber Allen; and many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Scalicity Angel Perez.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines with visitation from 2:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Resthaven Cemetery.

One would think that considering all of the available resources to state & federal agencies they could figure this out. All of the Spyware & surveillance technology they use for other things could be used in these unsolved MURDER CASES.
