Sebastian “Ty” Husted, 18, of Centerville, Iowa was last seen Jan. 22, 2018, just across the Iowa border in Mercer County, Missouri, where he worked as a power washer in a hog barn.

He was reported missing that same day when he didn’t return home with a co-worker.

Mercer County is located on the Missouri-Iowa border and is about 60 miles away from Centerville.

Evidence shows Husted got a ride to work from a co-worker because he did not have his own transportation at the time. Investigators say he made it to the hog confinement facility near South Lineville in Mercer County but never returned home.

When he disappeared, Husted was described as five feet 11 inches tall and weighed 200 pounds.

Markings included: Tattoo of “Outlaw” on left forearm; Tattoo of “Sebastian” on right forearm; Tattoo of two crossed revolvers, skulls and roses on the chest.

His cell phone last pinged in Lineville, Iowa, about 40 miles from where it should have been.

Husted’s co-worker made it back home to Centerville that day — but without Ty.

“Please, man, just come get me. Please.”

Before the work day ended on January 22, Husted messaged his brother asking to be picked up, stating his co-worker was acting very strange.

“Please, man, just come get me. Please,” Husted said in the message.

His brother asked for a location but received no reply.

Investigators followed up on approximately 50 leads and drained the hog pit on multiple occasions.

Husted’s cellphone went dark and there was no activity on his bank accounts.

While still missing, the Centerville man missed his 19th birthday as well as the birth of his first son, Kendrick.

Remains discovered 6 years after disappearance

Husted’s whereabouts remained a mystery until Tuesday, April 23, 2024, when a turkey hunter stumbled upon human remains on a private property in northeast Mercer County.

The remains were identified as Husted two days later on Thursday, April 25.

The patrol stated that Husted had been missing for more than six years and that the Centerville, Iowa Police initially took the missing person report in early 2018.

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Spencer told KTVO that Husted’s skeletal remains were found approximately one mile from the hog barns.

According to the Mercer County sheriff in Missouri, the medical examiner said there was not enough evidence to determine the cause or manner of Husted’s death, KCCI reported on May 2, 2024.
