Raymond L. “Little Raymond” March Jr., 23, was shot outside Wilma’s Club in Davenport, Iowa, at 2 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 1998.

According to police, March — a Davenport resident who formerly resided in Fairfax, Iowa — walked with a group of people out toward their cars once the bar closed. The group talked for several minutes before March walked away. Seconds later, shots rang out and March fell.

Police said at least one bullet hit March near the neck. A bystander and an officer administered CPR until paramedics arrived.

March was taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Campus in Davenport, where he died shortly after arrival.

It was the Quad Cities’ first homicide of the year.

About Raymond March

Raymond L. March, Jr., was born in Iowa City on April 11, 1975. He graduated in 1995 from Davenport Central High School, where he’d played football, and was a former employee of APAC in Hiawatha.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 1998, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial was at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 5 – 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home in Bettendorf, and from noon until the time of services Tuesday at the church.

Survivors included a daughter and a son (children’s names withheld as per their mother’s request); his mother, Pamela Turnquist of Davenport; his father, Raymond March Sr. of Fairfax, Iowa; his stepmother, Sandra Townsley of Davenport; two sisters, Tanisha March and Shalonda March, both of Davenport; two brothers, Nathaniel Turnquist of Davenport and Ramon March of Fairfax; a stepbrother, James Townsley, Davenport; grandparents, Ludwig “George” and Phyllis Turnquist and Frankie and Cora March, all of Davenport; and great-grandmothers, Hortense Turnquist and Lucille Turnquist, both of Davenport, and Frieda Ahlgren, Peoria, Ill.
