Lorri Lynn Alexander, 50, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, was found deceased in the early morning hours on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, inside an empty apartment at the Cadwell Building in Fort Dodge.
Fort Dodge police and medical personnel found Alexander’s remains after a report of an unresponsive woman was called in to the Webster County Law Enforcement Center.

Officials determined Alexander had died before their arrival.
The state medical examiner’s office ruled her death a homicide.
In a Messenger story dated Jan. 5, 2017, Fort Dodge Police Chief Kevin Doty said that while the death was ruled a homicide, exactly how the victim died would not be released at that time.
“She was in an empty apartment that was under renovation,” Doty said.
Doty said the homicide wasn’t believed to be a random event and said there was no threat to the community.
Unrelated to Donald Preston death
Additionally, Doty told the Messenger the case appeared unrelated to the recent shooting death of Donald Preston, 51, of Fort Dodge.
Preston’s body was found in a field southwest of Fort Dodge on Dec. 26, and his case also ruled a homicide.
“While they happened within a week of each other,” Doty said, “the investigators are saying they’re not (related).”
Preston was last seen by family in Fort Dodge on Dec. 22, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
His body was found in a field near a curve on Webster County Road P51.
Webster County sheriff’s deputies who investigated said it appeared that Preston had been in the field overnight.
Investigators working closely with DCI on both cases
Alexander’s death brings the number of homicides in Webster County to two for 2016.
Doty said the Fort Dodge Police Department is working closely with the DCI on Alexander’s case. The DCI is also assisting Webster County officials on Preston’s murder.
Chief Doty asked that anyone with information on Alexander’s activities or who may have seen her before Dec. 29 (2016) contact the Fort Dodge Police Department.
