The body of Ky Van Luong, 20, of Des Moines was found shot to death Saturday, February 14, 1998, along the Des Moines River not far from the site where a woman’s body was discovered two days earlier.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Bruce Elrod said Luong died of gunshot wounds.

Police believed he had been shot in another location and his body dumped along the 6th Avenue and Birdland Drive bike path.

On February 12, police found the nearly nude and badly burned body of 44-year-old Susan Hagen in the 600 block of Birdland Drive near the 2nd Avenue bridge.

Ky Van Luong is buried in the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Despite the close locations, officials said they didn’t believe the two cases were connected.
