Frederico Ceon Thompson, 18, was shot and killed on Jan. 1, 2017, at about 3:36 a.m. when a fight broke out at ‘The 508,’ a troubled nightclub at 508 Indianola Ave. in Des Moines’ Indianola Hills neighborhood.
He was the father of a young daughter. During a vigil three days later, mourners delivered a prevailing message: Stop the violence in Des Moines. No one has been charged in his death.

Frederico Ceon Thompson, age 18, was taken from this world too soon on Sunday, January 1, 2017.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 6 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside committal service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 10th at Glendale Cemetery.
Frederico was born October 6, 1998, in Des Moines, Iowa to Mindy Shields and Frederico Thompson. He was attending Scavo High School and was getting ready to graduate soon. He loved playing basketball and hanging out with his buddies.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Carson Kristine Washington; mother, Mindy Shields; father, Frederico Thompson; paternal grandfather, Frederick Thompson; paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Beechum; uncles, Bryant, Barron, and Eric Thompson and Jimmie, Sean, Dennis, and Tye Shields; aunts, Nicole Thompson, Samantha Tillert, and Lakeyisa Shields; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. He is also survived by his significant other, Mikalen Sellers; best friends, Sundi Edwards, Karyree Henderson, and Little Man, Jaylen; best cousin, Cori Shields; mother of his only child, London Washington; as well as many other beloved brothers and sisters adopted along the way.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Joann Carter, and his maternal grandparents, Jimmie and Kristine Shields.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be used for the care of his daughter, Carson.
