The Sioux City Police Department is seeking information on the murder of Pastor Daniel Harden — sometimes referred to as “Preacher” by friends — whose body was discovered around 4 a.m. Dec. 1, 2020, in a Park Place apartment at 2601 Douglas Street on the city’s north side.

Harden had been dead for about a week and his body showed signs of blunt force trauma.

The apartment appeared to have been used as a flop house by transients, police said.

Officials said an autopsy was conducted by the State Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny, Iowa, and ruled his death a homicide. A suspect has not been identified in his murder.

The apartment is part of a complex where 33-year-old Solomon Blackbird was shot on Nov. 1, KETV news reported on Dec. 10, 2020. Blackbird later died.

Police have said the two deaths did not appear to be related.

Harden’s death marked Sioux City’s fifth homicide of 2020, above the annual average of two.

In his second-to-last Facebook entry posted Sept. 8, 2017, Harden addressed death and never giving up.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, Sioux City Police Sergeant Tom Gill said investigators had identified a suspect in the case, who is a transient, but Gill said there wasn’t enough evidence to make an arrest in the case,” KTIV.com’s Matt Breen reported.

Also on May 2, the Facebook account “Justice For Daniel Harden” was created. It features photos of Harden and a plea for police to reopen the case and arrest any suspects involved, Breen said.
