Law enforcement agencies are investigating the Monday, Aug. 24, death of Brenda Dailey, 53, of Mapleton.

Dr. Dennis Klein of the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa, conducted the autopsy on Ms. Dailey on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. No further information will be released at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.

The Mapleton Police Department requested the assistance of the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and is also being assisted by the Monona County Sheriff’s Office and the Monona County Attorney’s Office.

Three and a half weeks after Dailey’s homicide, Mapleton police were faced with yet another alleged “falling down the steps” death in the small west-central Iowa town.

Dan Hieber

Dan Hieber

Daniel “Dan” Hieber, 58, who lived outside Mapleton but had a Castana address, was found near death at the bottom of a staircase at 823 Main Street in Mapleton around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015.

The woman who owned the home told officers he’d “fallen down the stairs after going to the bathroom,” but Hieber’s family members said his body contained no bruises or scratches or any type of injuries consistent with falling down a flight of stairs.

Due to the sensitive nature surrounding other ongoing investigations in the area, very little information has appeared in the media about either Dailey’s or Hieber’s case other than the initial details released to the public shortly after each death.

I believe the lady that owned the home to Dan Heiber had something to do with this.

I wonder if someone did not care for her free spirit. She served her country, and someone decided she deserved to suffer maybe for some thing that she may have said or done. I like that the authorities have not released even basic details such if there were any signs of a forced entry, any signs of a struggle.

I wonder if she had any connection to the beating of Mr. Hieber. Since the incident took place in the same jurisdiction. I wonder why the landlord claimed he fell after getting out of the shower. Did she witness him falling down, was the floor wet leading to where he allegedly fell.
