Charles Edward Sanders

April 15 marked 56 years since the body of 67-year-old Charles “Charlie” Edward Sanders was found in the river under the Court Avenue Bridge in downtown Des Moines. Sanders’ wallet was missing and he had been bludgeoned in the head.

Sanders’ son-in-law, William Edward Graves, identified his father-in-law’s decomposed body.

Sanders’ family members believe Charlie was killed by someone who knew him — someone who also knew Charlie had recently been paid for a job.

No one has ever been arrested or charged in Charlie Sanders’ unsolved homicide.

If you have any information concerning his death, please contact the Des Moines Police Department at (515) 283-4864.
