Connie Ruddy, a 21-year-old mother of two, vanished from her Ida Grove, Iowa home without a trace on February 10, 1997. Ruddy’s two-year-old and two-month-old children were found alone in the residence, unharmed. On August 31, 1999, more than two years after her disappearance, a man looking for fossils near Ida Grove found a human jawbone in the Boyer River in Crawford County near Dow City. Nothing else was found. Dental records confirmed it was Ruddy's jawbone, and the former missing persons case was reclassified as a homicide.

Washta, Iowa (Ida County)
November 27, 1997
On November 27, 1997, a decomposed body was found at the Washta Access south
of Washta, Iowa. The vicitim was identified as Dung Kim Truong, who
had been reported missing on September 22, 1997. Truong was last seen
leaving the Ameristar Casino at approximately 6:30 p.m. on September
22, 1997 with an unknown Asian male.
