Thank you for your interest in Lisa's case – it hurts to lose a friend. I've spoken to Bremer County Sheriff Dewey Hildebrandt about Lisa's exhumation. But because of confidentiality matters, I'm not able to pass along any information. However, perhaps you could contact Sheriff Hildebrandt and explain your friendship and make a direct inquiry. The phone number for his office is (319) 352-5400.

I am interested in any information in followup to Lisa's exhumation in 2010. DNA evidence was to be examined in her cold case. I was the last person she dated before leaving Knoxville for school and I never heard from her again. I've always wondered if her case was related to the book and investigation she was working on.

No problem at all, Brandy. We're happy to help, and anxiously await any kind of news on your grandfather's case as well as Kay's. Everything about this case is so terribly sad and tragic. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please stay in touch.
All best,

This story is so sad, and I hope his family finds peace. How has this person not been caught yet? Jared seemed like a great kid with a bright future.

We realize that now that you are doing good by trying to spread the word...I was just upset at first to think that the case was considered cold, mainly because of the name of the website (Iowa Cold Cases)...It was just too soon for me to think that it was a shut case. Thank you for making this a more widely known case. :)

I'm thinking that even thought this case is still under investigation, like the Ashley Okland case, it was added to the website to create more widespread awareness of it.

no words to describe this! how sad. :( the mother is listed on the child abuse registry...why was she allowed to have these precious children in her care in the first place..esp. unsupervised?! our justice system needs some major changes! if the courts would protect children from monsters like her the first time...this poor baby would still be alive!

I also knew Eric's family pretty well. My wifes cousin was married to Eric's mom when Eric was small. I haven't seen the family to talk to them in years, but I have talked to my wife's cousin a few times before his death. Joe (my wife's cousin) didn't believe the suicide scenario any more than I did. Both of these cases NEED to be reopened and investigated by someone that DID NOT participate in the initial investigations. They need to be looked at with fresh eyes and open minds. Both Toni and Eric deserve nothing less. The truth needs to come out and the actual murder needs to be sent to prison.

Thank you for contacting us, Penni. I did some searching tonight and tracked down a Connie Jo Choate, born Dec. 15, 1970, who died Aug. 8, 1995, but other than her being buried in Greene County at the Paton Cemetery, the only other mention of her I found was her mother's obituary.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation's website on unsolved murders, there are currently no open cases in Greene County. http://www.dps.state.ia.us/DCI/coldcaseunit/counties/Greene.shtml

If you're fairly certain her case is unsolved, could you provide us with a little more information about where in Iowa she was killed and how her death came about? Thanks in advance!

Mike you were right, the Keokuk Police did botch their investigation. Much was done wrong, and they wanted to just try to get "us" the family & extended family to shut up & leave them alone. According to DCI, and telephone records, I was the last person to talk to Toni. Living in Des Moines at the time, she called me talking about the supposed "accidental shooting" of Eric around the corner. It was on the 12th, that he was shot. Specific details surrounding that "supposed" accidental suicide were brought to Toni's attention by someone living in the same house where he was shot, and she went to the Keokuk Police about it. But... she also talked with many loved ones about it too, including me. She was murdered the very next day. I told DCI when I came to Keokuk to talk with them that there was no way they could ever convince me that her death was not related to what happened around the corner. I believe that to this day. Toni was an amazing person. She filled the room with her personality. She was as big as life. I miss her and love her and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish she was here to share things with. Hi Nicole, it's been a long time. Tell your dad I said hi. Hi Jess love you!

Jessica, Please accept the condolences of Iowa Cold Cases on the loss of your mother. We hope that answers can be found. I have been in touch with the reporter who covered the trial and am hopeful that she can provide publicity that will bring forward some tips. Keep the faith.

i am toni's daughter and it has been very hard living without my mother and the fact that we have no answers about her murder makes it that much harder, not only for me but my family as well. I also believe that her murder and the young man's death are linked. i just hope that we will find out who did this. she was a great woman, mother, daughter, sister, friend, cousin and so much more and was loved by so many people.al i ask is if anyone knows anything even the littlest thing to come forward because it may help solve this case.

David,

I'm sorry I missed your most recent comment in response to my earlier reply. Attribution just means that if you use something from someone else's story or article in your own project (i.e. a quote, a paragraph, a photo, etc.) that you show in your work where you got the information. My "Sources" list following Maureen's story is a good example; it lists all the publications or media sources I used to put a case summary together for Maureen's page here on our site.

Your project is probably over by now, and I hope you earned a nice grade for your work. You are right about how difficult it is to find information online about these older cases; it is precisely why I decided to build the website and make information available to the public.

Please feel free to contact me directly at jody@iowacoldcases.org if I can still be of any help or if you have any further questions. Thank you again for writing.

All best,

Jody

Sara is referring to a comment left on ICC's Villisca Case Summery at http://iowacoldcases.org/case-summaries/villisca-axe-murders/ In the comments section, BekaShakur wrote, "When the people say Legion did the killing, look at the reverends name, LyGeIn, that’s Lyn George Jacklin, all in 1 word." Reverend Lyn George Jacklin Kelly was suspected of killing the Moore Family.
