On Saturday, September 13, 1980, the chopped up bodies of Rose Burkert, 22, and Roger Atkison, 32, both of St. Joseph, Missouri, were discovered in a motel room at the Amana Holiday Inn in Iowa County. A motel manager discovered the bodies about 1 p.m. on Saturday when the occupants missed the noon deadline for checking out of the motel.
