Francisco Nagera was shot outside the Stadium Club in Davenport, Iowa on Monday, January 24, 1983.
Nagera and his brother left the bar and quickly became involved in a struggle as two men tried to rob them. An undercover officer who witnessed the event got involved and Nagera was shot in the abdomen.
When the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation established a Cold Case Unit in late 2009, Nagera’s case was one of approximately 150 cases the new unit hoped to solve through advancements in DNA technology. The Cold Case Unit was forced to close down in December 2011 due to lack of funding, although the DCI continues to investigate those cold cases where progress was being made.
