Strassburger was employed as a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill., and lived in Davenport, Iowa with his parents. He allegedly was last seen on his way home from work at 12:15 a.m. on August 6, 1982. He never arrived home and has never been heard from again.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) states that Strassburger was last seen on June 28, 1982.

His 1976 Oldsmobile was found abandoned in the eastbound lane on the Le Claire bridge over the Mississippi River on Interstate 80, about 15 miles from his home. Extensive searches of the river and the surrounding area turned up no sign of Strassburger.

Three years after Strassburger went missing, a witness in a court proceeding in another state claimed to know about a homicide connected to Strassburger’s case. Authorities described the information as “extremely credible” and said the witness knew information about Strassburger’s disappearance that had never been publicly released. They were never able, however, to verify the witness’s account.

Investigators believe Strassburger was the victim of a homicide, but have never been able to prove it because Strassburger’s body has never been recovered.

I think that investigators have a decent case, they can try and get prosecutors to file homicide charges without a body. The FBI has a program on this. Also, it’s interesting that his vehicle was found on the east bound lanes, when he should have been going West. Also, they find any fingerprints other then his.

Since he worked at the arsenal, his fingerprints would be on file. As a former federal government employee and retired military, I have been fingerprinted a number of times.

So with the news of Billy Lewis being identified and Larry Eyler being the person who took his life; would I be silly to think some of these missing cases of young men in Iowa we’re linked?
