7th-annual-2013-ABA-Journal-BlawgsFor the past six years, the American Bar Association (ABA) has allowed the general public to vote on the year’s best-of-the-best blogs, zeroing in on a blogger’s dedication, creativity and engagement with readers. Now in its seventh year, the “blog-ranking rodeo” has polls open through the close of business on Dec. 20.

Here’s where you come in.

Defrosting Cold Cases — a blog set up by Alice de Sturler to get more media attention for victims of unsolved homicides — has been nominated in the “Criminal Justice” category of “The 2013 ABA Journal Blawg 100,” which honors the top 100 blogs from the thousands out there in the legal blogosphere. There are 13 categories, and each person gets a total of 13 votes to distribute as they see fit among the blogs they like, with a limit of 1 vote per person, per blog.

Alice (aka “Vidocq_CC” or “the Vidster” in the Twitter world) also uses social media to bring together criminal justice professionals to share and exchange information about crime-solving’s future. From forensic scientists to both current and retired law enforcement cold case squad leaders, she’s been making an incredible difference.

Her regular Twitter #CrimeChat has covered topics including prosecutorial misconduct, ballistics, capital punishment, DNA, expert testimony, forensics, and partial finger printing, just to name a few. CrimeChat transcripts are subsequently posted on the Defrosting Cold Cases website for reference and review.

Alice is working behind the scenes every day to shed new light on cold cases. She’s in your corner. Her December 2013 Case of the Month features Iowa’s Michelle Martinko; Michelle was found murdered around 4 a.m. on Dec. 20, 1979, in the Westdale Mall parking lot in Cedar Rapids. The 18-year-old Kennedy High School senior had been stabbed to death inside the family Buick.

If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to cast a vote for Defrosting Cold Cases at the ABA Journal website. Yes, you’ll have to register before voting, but it’s quick and painless and ensures integrity in the voting process.

A vote for the Defrosting Cold Cases blog (click on the Criminal Justice category) is a vote for cold case victims everywhere.
