According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, homicide is the number two cause of death for women in the workplace. Thirty-one percent of women who die at work are killed in a violent act.
Robbery is a primary motive, as is rape. But other causes can be occupational jealousy or domestic problems which spill over into the work environment.
Forty-three-year-old Lana Jane Anderson became part of those sad statistics on May 10, 1991 when she was murdered and robbed in the office of the Landmark Apartments which she managed on Dickman Road on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa.
The senseless act left a devastated family, including Tom Anderson—her husband of 25 years—three children, her mother, and five siblings.
